Act III

Mansfield, 1971-2

pic

The smell of Brut cologne and polyester comes with an airing of the lone recording by Act III, a nightclub band from Mansfield.

The band was a descendant of the Mark III, with former members of that band Ken Markley (organ) and Bob Altomonte (drums) adding a new sax player, Sonny Wadlington.

The band played the local Brown Derby restaurant circuit. The NE Ohio Brown Derbys were not related to the famous Los Angeles restaurants. They also had a residencty at the Skyline Lounge inside Park Lanes bowling alley.

The band recorded a 45 in late 1971 or early 1972 at Musicol. The two sides are jazzy/loungey tunes, updating the Mark III sound for the Me Decade.

The band had a personnel change in August 1972, with Arnett Hayes, a well known Mansfield keyboard player, replacing Ken Markley. The band lasted a few more months before ending.
