the Missels
Columbus, 1959-1961
The Missels - spelling 'error' intentional - were a rock-n-roll band from Columbus. There is not much known about them other than some ads in the Columbus Dispatch. The band's leader and drummer was Dick Jeffries, a student at West high School.
The band recorded one 45 on the R.D. Globe label. The A side is a rocked up take on the "Swanee River" evergreen, sounding like Johnny and the Hurricanes were a main influence.
The band were credited on other R.D. Globe 45s by Johnny Conville and Jimmy Gray.
Dick Jeffries was a well known musician in Columbus for many years. His most successful band was Copley Jeffries, and Reid aka Triangles in the 1970s.
